The lessons

Introduces the course and the 12 Step Clean Up Your Mess In Lightroom Classic System. Asks you to think about the reasons you use Lightroom Classic. What do you want to do with your photos after you’ve developed them?

This lesson explores Lightroom Classic’s Catalog so you understand exactly what it is and why you should (in most cases) only have one.

In this lesson you’ll learn the steps needed to clean up your Catalog, including merging Catalogs and deleting old, unwanted Catalog files.

Learn why you need a good folder structure for photos. Analyze your own folder structure to see if it meets your needs now and in the future.

Whats is the Folders panel for? When do you need to use it (hint: not often) and how do you find missing hard drives?

More on finding missing hard drives and photos. You’ll learn how to find missing photos and move them around. You’ll also decide whether you want to keep them in the Catalog or remove them.

In this lesson you’ll complete the process of cleaning up your Folders panel. By the end of it you’ll have no missing photos and you’ll understand the best practices for the future.

Now you have no missing photos it’s time to set up your new folder structure (if needed). You’ll also learn how to back up both your Catalog and your photos for peace of mind.

In this lesson you’ll learn why Collections are the best way to organize and sort your photos, and why they have lots of advantages over star ratings and keywords.

Take the first steps to using Collections for organizing your photos. You’ll learn what a good Collections structure looks like and start creating the Collections Sets and Collections you need for your photos.

Learn how to use Collections to sort the photos from a specific shoot. I’ll show you how to use Collections to both find your best photos and the ones you want to add to your portfolio, convert to black and white or use in a zine or photo book.

In this lesson you’ll discover how to use Collections instead of star ratings to decide which photos from a shoot to send to the Develop module. We’ll also look at the pros and cons of marking photos as Rejects (and I’ll explain why I never do it).

This lesson shows you lots of uses for synced Collections, including some most photographers don’t know about. It also gives you tips for organizing your synced Collections and keeping them under control.

In this lesson I’m going to show you how to use Adobe Portfolio to organize your best photos. These ideas are great for your creativity as they give you new ways of viewing your developed photos.

Organizational metadata is the metadata that Lightroom Classic gives you to classify, organize and search your photos. In this lesson you’ll learn how photographers use keywords, star ratings and flags, and why you should use Collections instead.

Color Labels are the most useful type of organizational metadata. This lessons shows you why and gives you some options for using them with both photos and Collections.

In this lesson you’ll learn how to tidy up your Develop Presets. You’ll also learn how to back up your presets, templates and other important settings.

Learn how to tidy up other types of presets, profiles, plugins and templates found in Lightroom Classic.

It’s time to look at your cloud storage space. I’ll show you how to find out what’s taking up your storage space and how to safely delete unneeded files.

Summing up, some tools and planners to help you with the course content, and a plan for the future.

What others are saying
Don’t take our word for it. Here are some of the things people have said about my Mastering Lightroom Classic ebooks.
“Your book is by far the best that I have read. No kidding, you explained some of the stuff on 2012 Process and exposure that I could never keep straight. The chart on shadows/blacks/whites/highlights and where they kick in is priceless. Really great.”
– Jim
“Just wanted to say thanks for your extremely helpful books – particularly the Mastering Lightroom series. They’re a great starting point in creating a workflow which is far better than just a ‘this is how it works sort of guide. It’s been eye-opening and useful, even for a rank amateur home hobbyist.”
– Nancy
“I found Mastering Lightroom Book Two amazing… I sat at the computer going from your book to Lightroom, practicing each part in the process. Your book made it so easy to understand each part!
I will be recommending your books without hesitation.”
